As a partner of 30 years at the Paul Hastings law firm’s employment law and tax practices, Ethan has facilitated the firm’s commitment to providing Community Partners with pro bono legal services for more than 23 years. Now retired, he continues his Paul Hastings’s service in a consulting capacity. Ethan founded the firm’s Global Compensation, Benefits, and ERISA Practice Group. In addition to handling major employee benefit litigation, he has many innovations to his credit. For example, he pioneered the Section 401(k) plan, the use of convertible debentures to compensate executives, Section 401(h) retiree health plan funding, health reimbursement accounts. After receiving his undergraduate degree from Pomona College, Ethan earned his J.D. degree from the University of California at Los Angeles School of Law. He serves on the board of directors for the Huntington Library in San Marino and is a member of the Employee Benefits Committee of the American Bar Association’s Section of Labor and Employment Law, among numerous other community activities.
